November 2010

Dear Parents,                                                                                                  November 2010 Calendar

Fall is officially in full swing!  I hope you’re looking forward to all the events and activities that come with it!  One of the events is the flu!!!!  Please help us with this.  If your child has a fever over 99 degrees, has a severe cough or drainage, or has thrown up, he/she may NOT return to school for a minimum of 12 hours.  In a classroom setting, we simply cannot afford to expose all students in the class to an illness that your child might have.  I’m sure you appreciate that from other parents as well.

Hopefully, as you examine your child’s report card (which should be in the Monday folder) there will be no surprises.  With our Monday folders, agendas, and progress reports, we’ve tried to keep you updated about your child’s progress.  At this point in the school year, we want you to be well informed if your child is struggling academically.  Now is the time to get help.  Also, now is the time to make adjustments if necessary (i.e., moving from 2nd grade back to 1st grade, etc.)  I know that may seem frightening, but trust me when I say it may be in the best interest of your child.  If he/she is failing core subjects such as phonics and math, the first quarter has been somewhat of a review and will only get more difficult as the year progresses.  A student who fails these two subjects for the year will not be promoted here at Temple Christian School.  Let’s get help now if we need it!!!

Our Barnes and Noble Book Fair will be held on Tuesday, November 9.  We’d love to have a great turnout!  Here’s how it works:  Every student will be given several vouchers to give to friends and family members.  If you use the voucher on that day to make purchases, TCS will get a percentage of the proceeds!  You may also come out between the hours of 4:00-9:00 to see some of the classes perform!  One thing that’s different this year is that you can give the code to friends and family members in any state, and they may purchase online or in their local Barnes and Noble store for up to 5 days after our book fair and we will STILL get credit for it!

There will be no school for K5-12th grade on Thursday or Friday, November 11 and 12.  Our teachers will be attending a teacher’s convention in Charlottesville.  The K3 and K4 classes will be on a regular schedule, and morning and afternoon daycare will be available for K3 and K4 students on those days.

Our 6th-12th grade Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) will be held on Monday evening, November 15, from 7:00-8:00.  Please go to your child’s homeroom at the start of the meeting.  (If you have more than one child, you’ll have to make a decision for that first portion of the meeting.)  You will receive a schedule so you’ll get to see every teacher throughout the course of the evening.  Please do not bring your children to these meetings.  The PTMs are strictly for parents/guardians and teachers, and are designed to make you aware of what will be happening in your child’s classroom during the upcoming nine weeks.

The three K5 classes will be presenting their annual Thanksgiving program on November 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the church auditorium.

If you need to speak to a teacher about a discipline situation or a grade, etc., please make an appointment through the school office.  It is difficult for our teachers to meet with you in the mornings when they are trying to get their classes started for the day, or in the evenings during dismissal time.  Arranging an appointment  will make things more convenient for everyone involved!  Thanks so much!!

Thanksgiving break will be Monday through Friday, November 22-26.  Enjoy the time with family and friends!  Speaking of Thanksgiving, let me say that I am thankful for the families at Temple Christian School!  You’re the best!!!  God is good!
