BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Born in Lynchburg, VA (at VBH) on August 15, 1966.  I was saved at the age of 6 years old in first grade at LCA through the guidance of my teacher (and family friend) Mrs. Jeri Yoder Smith.  I attended LCA from K5-12th grades.  I attended Randolph Macon Woman’s College where I received my BA in Sociology-Anthropology and Sports Exercise.  I attended Jefferson College of Health Science and am a licensed Physical Therapist  Assistant, mostly serving in the hospital and SNF settings.   I have enjoyed substituting for grades1 – 12, and love each grade for different reasons.  I have enjoyed my first year as a K5 teacher.  I am truly thankful for this opportunity to be on staff at this amazing Christian school, and have been blessed with many new friendships!  I’m grateful for all of the support I have received!  God is so good!

LIFE VERSE

I have three verses!   Isaiah 40:31,  Proverbs 31:5,  Luke 1:45

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

One year teaching K-5 full time, and eight months long term substituting here at Temple Christian School.

FAMILY

I’m thankful my Dad is still alive at 83!  My Mom has been in Heaven almost 5 years and I miss her more than ever but strive to continue her loving legacy.  In addition to being a strong Christian, loving wife/mother/friend, she was also a teacher!  I have an older sister, Laura,  who is my best friend and also a teacher.  I’m excited to be married to my other best friend, Ricky, and to be a step-mom to his daughter and son!  I’m also a “Mom” to our fur baby (K9), Bentley!

HOBBIES

I love being the wife/best friend/team partner of Ricky Meeks and spending every second God gives us together, as well as time with our families and friends!  Ricky and I enjoy walking, hiking, running, and playing with Bentley.  Together we enjoy traveling, fishing, gardening, cooking/grilling, anything outdoors, attending sporting events, movies, and going to the shooting range.

INTERESTING FACTS

Ricky and I will celebrate our second anniversary on June 14th!  We were married on the beach at the Outer Banks.  I am goal oriented and love new challenges!  I may not excel at them all, but ALWAYS give my best and I never give up.  I have run three half marathons and two marathons.  I enjoy reading biographies.  Sushi is my favorite food, and I crave broccoli and salads.  My sister teases me about my “tree bark and grass”.  My main goal in life is to serve the Lord and share His love wherever He leads.

WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT TEACHING

What I like most about teaching is the students, the variety of personalities and my daily interaction with them.  I enjoy helping them to the best of my ability learn and understand the content of each subject.  I love when they understand what they are learning and watching them grow in their own lives.  I love the challenge of their questions, as I have been learning from them too!  It truly means so much when they make a special effort to come visit or get my attention whether at school or out in the community.
