Mrs. Barbara Gifford
Because of a blizzard, I was born at home in Burgess, Virginia. During my youth, an elderly couple took me to White Stone Baptist Church where I first learned about God and received baptism. In my early twenties I made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ. Soon after I met my husband, David, at Richmond Christian Fellowship. My focus on education began with me serving as the preschool teacher in the first year of an educational co-op that later grew into Richmond Christian School. There I learned about Abeka, and when my growing family moved back near my home area I continued with that curriculum as a home school mom through four high school graduations. When my children all became associated with Liberty University, the eldest to teach and three to study, David and I moved to Lynchburg.
LIFE VERSE
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
For over 30 years, I have been active in education; working at an education co-op, home schooling four children, pre-schooling various children at home, teaching the Bible in the church and a local mission, and working at Christian schools. This will be my sixth year teaching at Temple Christian School.
FAMILY
My still growing family includes my husband, my four children, their four spouses, two teenage granddaughters, and 10 grandsons, 13 and under.
HOBBIES
My hobbies have included sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafts, canning, and studying nutrition, health and home remedies. Skydiving is not on my bucket list.
WHAT I ENJOY ABOUT TEACHING
My favorite parts of teaching the little ones are the subjects of Bible, Reading, and Math. The joy that I first experienced in my twenties when God used me to teach my first child to read continues to this day.
